Feed your passion! A jug of wine, a loaf of bread, and thou...
Well, Omar Khayyam might have had a point, but we think you'll have more
luck wooing your darling with one of our recipes than with a couple of
slices of best wholemeal. And wine is wonderful, but for a touch of the
exotic, why not try a cocktail?
Don't forget there are more meals than dinner. Start out early with
breakfast in bed - you'll find our suggestions for the sexiest meal of the
day on the
Red
Letter Days page. Or if the
weather's fine, take a picnic to park - again, the Red Letters Day page has
more ideas.
Remember, when it comes to food and seduction, presentation is
everything. If you have a dinner date with your sweetheart, don't just slap
the food down - get out your best china, lay the table with care (and your
crispest white linen tablecloth), and don't forget the candles. Just before
your loved one arrives, turn the main lights down, heat a little
floral-scented oil in a special burner, and put on some romantic music. As
the finishing touch, lay a single red rose across their placemat.
What should you cook? The first secret is to keep it simple: better a
successfully grilled lamb chop served with love than a boned and rolled
joint, stuffed with mango and walnut pate, delivered by a frazzled cook. And
there's nothing designed to kill passion more quickly than a deflated cheese
soufflé.
Another piece of wise advice is to find out what your darling's
passionate about, and base your menu on that - not on something you found in
a recipe book, however sensual it sounds.
But we couldn't resist offering you a few dessert suggestions:
Sundae Valentino
Two scoops each of chocolate and vanilla ice cream
One large banana
Half a cup of chocolate sauce
A single cherry
To present: One pretty glass dish, and two long-handled spoons
To prepare: Slice the bananas into discs, and place in the bottom of the
glass serving dish. Arrange the ice cream on top, and decorate with the
cherries. Pour over the chocolate sauce.
Share with your loved one - there's no better way to get up close and
personal. Just make sure you show you care - let them have the cherry!
Strawberry Love Nests
Pre-made meringue nests
One scoop of vanilla ice cream per nest
Half a pound of strawberries
Fresh whipping or double cream
Place each meringue nest in a flat bottomed bowl, and top with a scoop of
ice cream. Halve some strawberries and push them, flat side down, into the
ice cream. Whip the cream till it is stiff, and either pipe or spoon around
the outside of the meringue.
Eve's Temptation
Quarter of a cup each of pineapple and orange juice
Measure of peach schnapps
Nicely sliced pieces of apple, pear, pineapple, banana and, of course,
passion fruit.
Halved black and white grapes
Strawberries
Mix the orange and pineapple juice, and add the peach schnapps. Combine
the fruit together, and tumble in the juice Feed to your lover piece by
piece - and never mind how sticky you both get. You can always lick each
other clean....
